Awesome Auto Tech’s Abilities

Kudos to Logan Candy, our automotive technology NZITPs Skill Team member, for winning the NZDF Skills Competition.

Logan represented 2 Combat Service Support Battalion of the Royal New Zealand Logistics Regiment at the recent NZDF Skills Competition held at Burnham Camp near Christchurch.

The competition involved four categories: fault diagnosis, recovery task, use of electronics diagnostics equipment; and fire fighting.

Logan joined the NZ Army as an automotive technician, as I have always enjoyed working with my hands and understanding how things work. I am currently in my final year of my Heavy Automotive apprenticeship.

At the Linton Military Camp in Palmerston North where he is based, Logan works on a range of different vehicles that the army has, doing anything from minor maintenance to major repairs.

As for his involvement with WorldSkills, he reckons such has helped him develop his trade skills and give him a lot more confidence in the skills that he has.

“Having the opportunity to go to WorldSkills China and the WorldSkills International Competition in Abu Dhabi are a once in a lifetime opportunities. The vast amount of knowledge and experience that I will gain from these competitions are valuable to share and pass on,” he says.

Logan adds, “I really want to go to Abu Dhabi to do my family and friends proud and represent the Army and New Zealand in such a big competition.”
